Inside DOSS Culture

hero image for latest news

If you work at DOSS, you're here because you have the ambition to achieve great things, the resilience to get there, and the confidence (loud or quiet) to bet on yourself.

Over my career I've been fortunate to experience great company culture, it's given me a front row seat to what adds (or subtracts) from company culture. What attracts exceptional people? What keeps them engaged? What drives them away? I don't think there's a universal answer. Culture is too contextual for that.

At DOSS, the draw is the opportunity itself, defining a new category in a space that has not changed in over 50 years. We are working on one of the most complex problems in software: rebuilding how physical operations actually work. With the evolution of AI, we can tackle this problem in new and creative ways that weren’t possible just a few years ago.

This compounds in an interesting way: we attract people who love solving hard problems, and it turns out people who love solving hard problems are always looking for the next one. They also do their best work alongside others who feel the same way. If that sounds like you, here's an honest look at what it's like to work here.

The Opportunity

DOSS is rebuilding 50 years of ERP software from first principles. Every company that makes, moves, or sells physical goods depends on operations software, and most of that software was designed in a different era. We're building an AI-native Operations Cloud that manages the flow of goods, dollars, and data across procurement, inventory, orders, fulfillment, and finance in real time.

Real-world operations of physical businesses are messy & complex. Our customers rely on us to create systems that work, so they can focus on growing their business, creating products and experiences that bring value to you! Your favorite cup of coffee . A good night’s sleep. A delicious afternoon non-alc aperitif . A high protein snack .

Our Culture

Most companies describe their culture the way they wish it felt, not the way it actually feels. I am going to be concrete in describing ours, understanding that we believe our culture is a living thing that must be nurtured everyday, and that our culture is not for everyone.

DOSS is a high intensity, high velocity culture in pursuit of great impact. We value accountability and agency, and we reward results. We're serious about our opportunity but not ourselves. What creates balance for us is our empathy for each other, willingness to support each other, and the real-life moments of fun that ground us all (who doesn’t love an afternoon footrace, instant Peepo slack reactions, and rooftop gatherings?).

This shows up in how we work together in 3 key ways:

No task is beneath anyone. I've watched our founders roll up their sleeves on customer implementations. I've seen engineers jump into support threads because they wanted to understand how their code behaves in the wild. People care about doing good work more than being seen doing it.

Low ego, high impact. We debate openly to get to optimal solutions quickly. Strong opinions are loosely held allowing us to pivot quickly when someone shows us a better answer. Credit follows results. If your instinct is to protect your turf, you'll be uncomfortable here. If your instinct is to solve the problem in front of you and trust that good work gets noticed, you'll thrive.

We're a team. This means that everyone has a clear role and understands what role that plays in helping us achieve our mission. We think about how to maximize the individual strengths of team members for the good of the team. This also means you are put in position to succeed. We enjoy working together, sketching on whiteboards, having the spontaneous conversation that unlocks a stuck problem, going on a walk around downtown or taking in the SF bay from our roof top deck.

We’re deliberate about the inputs to our culture because we understand that culture will form, with or without intentionality behind it. We’ve made the decision to be intentional about ours. That means a culture where team-members are known beyond their slack avatars. Where we name our conference rooms after Nicholas Cage movies because one of our engineers loves them. DOSS is building for the Real World, and we’re doing it with real people.

Who thrives at DOSS

There are a lot of different types of people at DOSS, I’ve started to notice some patterns in some of our most successful team members:

Curious minds. The people who do their best work at DOSS enjoy consuming content that feeds their intellect, are unfazed by ambiguity as a starting point, and find solving hard problems energizing.

High slope. We care about your ability to drive towards your ambition and our role in supporting you in reaching the heights of your career. Wherever you are in your career - early, mid, senior - you pick things up fast, don't wait for permission to tackle problems, and hold yourself to a personal standard far exceeding what anyone else can expect of you.

High agency. You are outcome driven. You close loops without being chased. You define the problem before anyone asks you to. You care about your work and don’t wait to jump in.

How we operate

We have 4 principles that I personally gravitate towards when I think of our culture:

Carry the Rock. We do the hard thing: for ourselves, for the team, for our customers. Nobody drops the rock because it got heavy. That's when carrying it matters most.

Results Matter. We control inputs, and we're measured on outcomes. Effort isn't a result. Intentions aren't a result. What shipped, what changed, what improved: those are results.

Obsess Over Customers. We’re maniacal in our pursuit to understand and help customers win. Their pain is our product backlog. The faster we understand them, the faster we build the right thing.

Obsess Over Talent. Find it. Recruit it. Develop it. The team compounds. Every exceptional hire raises the floor for everyone around them. We take this seriously at every level.

What you get in return

Most AI software companies are going to offer you competitive compensation and a stake in what you’re building. That’s table stakes.

What's harder to find elsewhere is the proximity. Engineers get direct customer feedback. Our Core Operations team spans pre-sale to post-sale, developing a rounded skill set across the entire business. Every role touches customers and products in ways that are visible and immediate. You're not 3 layers removed from the thing that matters.

You also get real connection. I've led people programs at companies much larger than DOSS, and the thing I've seen again and again is that the quality of your relationships at work shapes everything: your growth, your engagement, how much you actually enjoy showing up. At DOSS, you're working alongside people who genuinely care about each other and the problems at hand. That's not a given anywhere. We work to make it true (and keep it true) here.

Sound like you?

I came to DOSS because I believe the best companies are built with the same intentionality as the best products. If you find hard problems irresistible, want to reach new heights in your career, and would rather be part of a crew than a machine, take a look at what we're building.

We're hiring across Engineering, Product, Core Operations, GTM, and G&A.
