From factories in China to Silicon Valley startups, co-founders Wiley Jones and Arnav Mishra kept encountering the same issue: teams spending 95% of their time navigating program management or seeking workarounds for brittle systems instead of doing real engineering work. At Athelas, Jones watched medical providers go line-by-line through claims because their systems were too rigid to adapt. Jones recalled growing up in a Midwestern manufacturing family, where the ERP used by his father’s company frequently failed to deliver basic reliability and downstream functionality.

They were universal. Operations teams everywhere were stuck between spreadsheets they’d outgrown and costly ERPs with data gaps that take months to implement simple workflow changes. Vendor lock-in compounds the problem: most ERPs take years to implement, and 75% of implementations fail entirely. There simply wasn't a sufficiently agile platform for orchestrating modern workflows.

Founded in 2022 by University of Illinois alumni Jones and Mishra, Doss committed to rebuilding 50 years of ERP software from scratch. Their approach was different: a unified real-time database with flexible schema control at the application layer — eliminating the fragmented, hard-coded systems that make legacy ERPs so rigid. This allowed Doss to accomplish the impossible: building the first Adaptive Resource Platform (ARP) in a fraction of the time, with the rigor of traditional ERPs and the simplicity of consumer tools. Doss is already lightyears faster and more nimble than the competition, and we’re just getting started.
